  5.     Debrett's Peerage and Baronetage, the studbook of the
  6. British aristocracy, has decided to join the 20th century.
  7. Explaining that "about one in every four children in Britain
  8. is born out of wedlock," Debrett's co-editor Charles Kidd
  9. pointed out that the 2,300-page 169th edition of the tome,
  10. published last week at $205 a copy, for the first time includes
  11. the "illegitimate issue" of the titled and blue-blooded.
  12. According to Kidd, the change was requested by many people
  13. previously excluded. Said he: "Since Debrett's has everything
  14. to do with being a book of record, the inclusion ensures that
  15. the book is comprehensive."

  17.     Among those who have gained admission to the upper crust's
  18. official ranks are the offspring of the late Sir Lennox
  19. Berkeley, composer-son of an illegitimate member of the Earl
  20. of Berkeley's family. Said his widow, Lady Elizabeth: "My only
  21. regret is that my husband did not live to see it."
